Galveston Catastrophe

The Great Storm of 1900 was the worst natural disaster to hit our country to date with the loss of over 6000 lives. For the Centenial in 2000, Grant Mitchel the producer of "The Great Storm", a powerful multi-image show on the hurricane contracted Stage Directions to co-produce the show. A music score written in 1906 titled "The Galveston Catastrophe" was chosen for the track but the twist was that the music was to be performed live by the Galveston Orchestra for the event. Dan Rather of CBS was the chosen Keynote speaker.

We began production by recording the orchestra during its one rehearsal. This gave us a music track to synchronize the photos to, however since we would be timing our show to a live performance we would need ways to manually cue the show to stay in sync. We chose a widescreen HD 16 X 9 format to build the show. Originally planned for an outdoor performance for 6,000, the show was moved indoors to the high school auditorium seating only 2,200. The reason?
